Paradigm: News
The new guy... - May 12, 2008
Just in case ya'll wanted to know, we have a new guitarist as of last month, Steve Garlick, and he's the man.
That's the news. PEACE.

This is it... - February 2, 2008
A few words about us and the new album, "Lights":
The album is finally done.
All the lyrics and music were written, recorded, and produced by Nate Leslie.
Overall, it is a decidedly happier sounding album than our previous releases. At the same time, Nate will tell you that these are some of the darkest, most depressing, and revealing lyrics he's ever written. Or maybe it's all just a sad attempt at sounding deep.
It was agreed by all of us that Paradigm should be viewed as being Nate's project. Jack, Matt, and Allan will of course still be involved on the performance side of things, but will not be involved the writing or recording process. At least, that's how it stands right now, and that's how this album was made. So for now, this is Paradigm a la Nine Inch Nails: one guy doing everything, with the other guys coming in to play live.
Most of the songs on the record tie into each other thematically. Whether it is a concept album or not, we'll leave that up to you..
Yes, the vocals are supposed to sound distorted. It was also deliberate to make a lot of the songs sound raw and grungy. It's a completely D.I.Y. recording in the first place, remember?
We hope you like the new music.
Progress - November 20, 2007
Things are going pretty damn good in our recording world...almost all of the drums and electric guitar tracks are finished, and each weekend we've been having a blast taking each step closer to completing our new baby. It's kind of crazy, we have a very unusual problem of having TOO many songs to choose from for this album. It's a good problem compared to previous albums where we would include songs that we felt were mediocre just because we needed to fill up a CD.
I can definitely tell you that the song "Words Are Ammunition" will be on it, if only because of the virtuosic tambourine playing.
We have no idea what the album will be called yet, so if you have a brilliant idea, send it to us, and we'll steal it and say we came up with it.
We miss playing for you all, we promise it won't be forever until we are playing beautiful music and looking pretty again.
And then there was four... - September 27, 2007
So, it's really happening, the recording of a new batch of awesome songs, most of which we have never played together. Nate has been recording demo versions of plenty of new songs in the little time that he has had at home this year, and amazingly, the rest of the band has gone crazy about the songs. Being 1100 miles from home seemed to help Nate write a whole lot of new music.
The other big part of what is going on is that Matt Murray, the guy who joined the band in late 2006 as the frontman, is back in the band to play guitar and help do backing vocals. We're completely stoked about having him back, we get along really well, and he's a great musician.
So, there's no set time for the new music to be finished, but we definitely can say that we're far more in love with these new songs than we ever have been compared to anything else we have written in the past. We hope the case will be the same for you, the listener. Taking the better part of a year off from the band has made us that much more passionate about the music. We miss playing for you guys, and we can't wait to start playing some awesome shows. PEACE.
Been a long time... - March 27, 2007
So...we haven't COMPLETELY lapsed into obscurity...almost, but not quite. The three of us (Nate, Jack, Allan) have been taking time off, in case you didn't notice. Since Matt left the band in January, we decided to give our creatively strained heads a break, and that has shown to be a very, very good decision. We've since been able to clear our heads and get the inspiration back, and we have been writing new music individually, looking to bring it together down the road in order to recreate ourselves altogether.
As far as the immediate future is concerned, we will not be playing together until the fall at least, since Allan is moving to the Quad Cities Iowa for work over the summer. Nate is hoping to spend his summer in Florida becoming a certified commercial diver/underwater welder. After the summer is over, we will begin to write and record again. We will be adding a new band member (or two), but who these people will be we don't fully know.
Just thought we'd drop a line on here since it's been 2 months since our last update. Be assured, when we're back, it's going to be SICK! peace.
Paradigm
where we are - January 29, 2007
So if you didn't know by now, we're not being a band at this time. We have a lot going on in each of our lives, and since we were back to being a 3-piece band, we figured it would be better to take some time off and figure ourselves out. It makes sense though, we've been a band for 6 years and never really taken a break. We don't know when we'll be making music again, but we've been pretty burnt out lately, so it will probably be a while. Don't worry though, if what happens with Paradigm was completely in our hands, we would have been screwed a long time ago...
Nate
yep it's true... - January 16, 2007
Matt is no longer playing with us. So there, just thought I'd open with that statement. It's alright, we're just going to keep moving on. We're going to leave up the songs that we recorded with him, since we worked hard on them, and maybe if we find another singer, we'll still play them. Nothing is for sure though.
We're playing, once again as a three piece, at COD and The Note, just check the calendar page.
We'll let you know what's going to happen. We are still going to be looking for another person to join the band. We have no idea what we're going to do next. Pretty sweet huh?

You can finally hear our new EP online! Click the music link at right or go to our myspace and purevolume pages to hear the new songs. We are so excited about this music, we've worked our butts off to make these songs the best they can be, so we hope you love them. We'll be giving away free copies in the future, so we'll let you know how you can get your very own bootleg. IT'S DONE! - December 11, 2006
Yes, it happened, we finished recording our brand new EP this past Saturday night...and it sounds spectacular! We hope to have the songs mixed within a week or two, and then they'll be up on our myspace and purevolume pages. They'll be free to download, and we want you to burn copies of the songs and give them to all your friends. We'll let you know when they're up.
We are so stoked to introduce the new Paradigm into to the world. ahhhhhhh...it's going to be great. I'm just a tad excited. anyway, I'll stop pretending that I have anything else to say and end it here. PEACE!

"Things are getting pretty serious..." - December 4, 2006
...ahhh or not. Leave it to Chicago weather to postpone the finishing of our EP even more. Instead of recording his final vocal tracks for our new EP this past friday, Matt was stuck shoveling 3792834 pounds of snow, as was the rest of the band, and everyone else in Chicago for that matter. No worries though, we were perfectly content to go to the local supermarket and get Naked (see last news entry).
Nate, Allan, and Jack finally used the sweet Lou Malnati's pizza gift card they got in August when they played the State Fair in Springfield. They ate food. And they were happy it was free. Nate made a genius comment to the host girl who seated them, and she made a funny face behind his back. Good times...
We swear we'll have a show eventually, and it'll be great. You'll love it like dung beetles love...well, you know...dung.
So much for this week. The weekly Paradigm business meeting starts in an hour or so, so you can be sure that all kinds of productivity will come out of it (as in Jack and Nate fighting about which flavor of Sun Chips is the best...).
PEACE
Getting naked - November 28, 2006
This past week, we found ourselves scratching ourselves when we itched, using the bathroom when we had to, eating food to stay alive...oh, and starting to write a new song last monday.
sometimes scratching each other's itchy spots...
just kidding. maybe.
We are super duper close to being done with the new EP. We are giddy with anticipation, kind of like looking forward to a passing period so you can go to the john.
We all got Naked 3 times last week alone.
"WHAT?!?"---you the reader.
We want to get sponsored by the healthy fruit drink company Naked. Because they make amazingly awesome drinks, and, for crying out loud, they're called NAKED. Why wouldn't we want to say we're sponsored by Naked? We're making little dorky promo videos for them hoping to get the company's attention. more on that if anything ever happens.
We'll play a show soon enough. trust me.

...Or you can just go to the our press section that is now up and read it there.

Today yesterday - November 2, 2006
Hey...So yesterday, all the guitar tracks got officially finished for the new EP, I recorded for about 6 hours, so my fingers are not happy with me. Went back today and did some piano and backup vocals. Everything sounds mighty fine. Except the fact that Jack was releasing horse-killing gases out of his intestines the whole time. We gotta get a better ventilation system down there.
The songs are almost done. We'll have them online within a couple weeks for you all to download. We love you all (platonicly! we swear! unless you're really really ridiculously good looking).

What's goin on... - October 30, 2006
So the for the past few weeks, we've been recording for our new 4-track EP that we're hoping to have finished within a month or two. It's a bit of a hike to get out to Sugar Grove to record at Jack's house, but it's been a blast recording in a new location. Just about everything we've ever done up until now has been recorded in the same room where we practice in Lombard. It definitely helps the musical inspiration to change things up a bit. We'll have the new songs up on our myspace and purevolume pages as soon as they're ready. We're also going to be working on some merch designs. Please talk to us on our guestbook or leave us a comment on myspace, we love to hear from you! PEACE.

HERE IT IS! - October 25, 2006
Hey everyone, it only took us 3 years, but we finally have a new website! This will start to look pretty cool as soon as we have some new photos and other stuff to add. I'll try to get up as many old photos as I can, but for now, just enjoy the fact that you don't have to look at the same red site design every time you visit here. The songs on the music page should work within a day or two. PEACE.
